The Low Season Traveller Guides and Magazine are the world’s first travel platform dedicated entirely to providing travel inspiration for global destinations outside their traditional peak seasons. Our mission is to alleviate the pressure and damage caused by peak tourism and “overtourism” by providing inspiration that helps to foster deeper, more meaningful relationships between travellers and the communities they visit.
Types of Pitch We Welcome
We’re looking for pitches that inspire our readers to travel outside of the peak season, that provide useful and actionable information about destinations in their low season, and offer inspirational first-person stories of low season travel. We want to hear about the incredible experiences that people can have with communities when there are fewer crowds, and the hotels and attractions that are leading the industry in eco-friendly initiatives.
1. Destination Guides
- Focus: Comprehensive guides from local destination experts during their destination’s low seasons.
- Content: Include information on must-see attractions, cultural experiences, local cuisine, events, and insider tips. Highlight the benefits of visiting during the low season, such as fewer crowds, lower prices, and unique seasonal activities. Guides must follow our template which will be provided on request.
2. First Person Experiences
- Focus: Personal travel narratives that offer unique insights and vivid descriptions around low season experiences.
- Content: Share your journey, experiences, and personal reflections on visiting a destination during its low season. Emphasise authentic interactions with locals and unexpected discoveries that would only happen outside of a destination’s peak season.
3. Eco-Friendly Hotels/Attractions
- Focus: Reviews and profiles of environmentally conscious accommodations or attractions.
- Content: Detail the sustainable practices and eco-friendly initiatives of accommodation providers or attractions. Include interviews with owners or managers, and highlight how these places contribute to the local community and environment.
4. Exceptional People and Communities
- Focus: Stories about inspiring individuals and vibrant communities.
- Content: Profile local artisans, guides, business owners, and community leaders who make a positive impact. Showcase their stories, contributions, and how they enhance the travel experience during the low season.
5. Low Season Outdoors
- Focus: Outdoor activities and adventures that are best experienced in the low season.
- Content: Explore hiking trails, wildlife watching, water sports, and other outdoor pursuits that are enhanced by fewer crowds and unique seasonal conditions. Provide practical tips and safety information.
6. Off the Beaten Track/Destination Dupes
- Focus: Hidden gems and lesser-known destinations in comparison to those that are suffering from overtourism.
- Content: Uncover unique and underexplored locations that shine during the low season. Emphasise their cultural, historical, or natural significance, and why they deserve a spot on the traveller’s itinerary.
7. Lesser-Known Benefits of Low Season Travel
- Focus: Advantages of low season travel for specific groups such as neurodiverse, those with additional accessible needs, or the elderly.
- Content: Highlight the unique benefits that low season travel offers to these groups, such as reduced sensory overload, more accessible healthcare, and slower-paced environments. Include personal stories, expert insights, and practical advice.
Submission Guidelines
- Pitch Format: Send a brief pitch (no more than 300 words) outlining your story idea, including the angle, key points, and why it fits with Low Season Traveller’s mission, using the form below.
- Supporting Information: If available, include links to your portfolio or previous work, and any relevant photos or multimedia that could accompany your story.
- Rates: We are a small, growing organisation of passionate, sustainable travellers and we’re looking for like-minded individuals to join us on our journey. Though our rates aren’t the highest in the industry, we hope our dedication to promote low season travel and help to alleviate overtourism will resonate with people who share our vision for more equitable and fair tourism. We’re looking to pay £0.10 per word for pitches looking at the above, and anticipate pitches of around 800-1000 words.

- Lesser-Known Benefits: Discuss advantages for specific groups (e.g., neurodiversity, medical conditions, elderly). Include personal stories, expert insights, and practical advice.

- Images: Use high-quality, relevant images that enhance the story. Caption images all images in the image name for use in the magazine.
