Casa Rocca Piccola is still privately owned and is a much loved family palace which contains over 50 rooms, many of which are open for viewing. At Casa Rocca Piccola you will learn all about the unique customs and traditions of the Maltese nobility. You can also see a collection of furniture, silver and paintings that add to the aesthetic riches of Malta. It also has World War II Air Raid Shelters that provide a dramatic and exciting addition to the tours of the house as well as a restaurant called La Giara on site.

Casa Rocca Piccola are fortunate to have a wonderful team of people working on the restoration of works of art, researching the extensive archives and making Casa Rocca Piccola accessible to everyone. All this has been made possible from the contributions that come in from the thousands of tourists who come to Malta and Valletta every year.

The Rooms
The Cosimo Suite

Named after Cosimo de Piro, the first de Piro to settle in Malta in 1530. The de Piro family left Rhodes with the Knights of St John in 1522 and settled in Malta when the islands were granted to Grand Master Fra Philippe Villers de L’Isle Adam. He was given trusted responsibility within the Order of St John and made Commander of the Arsenal of the Sovereign Prince.

The Clock Room

This room used to have a valuable 18th Century Maltese Clock in it which has been replaced with a replica. The original is in the museum and is one of 3 Maltese clocks that you can see in the Palace. Maltese Clocks are traditionally painted different colours depending in their owners. Black for the Knights, red for the clergy, blue for the nobility and green for the merchants.

The Santiago Room

The bed once formed part of the decoration of a church in Lisbon and ​has been cleverly turned into a sumptuous bed. You’ll see plenty of shells in this room including a large wooden one on the wall from Santiago di Compostela that gives this room its name.

The Elephant Room

Have a look at the bed and you’ll see that it is being proudly watched over by a pair of Elephants made in India. The walls are painted an Indian red too just because we like the colour!

The Pineapple Room

The pair of side lamps come from Villa Bologna, an aristocratic residence in Malta and there is also a landscape painted by the late Marquis Joe Scicluna who owned Palazzo Parisio another beautiful Maltese Palace. Make sure you visit them both when you are in Malta!
