Maslina is a contemporary, five-star resort on the Croatian island of Hvar, located near Stari Grad, one of the oldest towns in the Eastern Adriatic. Situated in the stunning Maslinica Bay, Maslina is surrounded by olive groves and terraced vineyards and stretches across two hectares of lush pine forest overlooking the crystalline Adriatic Sea. Boasting 50 rooms and three villas, wellness, family, culinary arts, cultural heritage, and authenticity are at its core.
Hvar Island – UNESCO Heritage and Celebrated Culture
Maslina Resort is so private, yet so accessible.
Hvar and the surrounding Pakleni Islands Archipelago lie in the northeast Mediterranean basin, making Maslina Resort easily reachable by plane, car, ferry, or catamaran.
Hvar Island is a multi-generational destination celebrated for its rich history, UNESCO heritage, booming party scene, and culinary prowess. It is also known for its remote villages and ancient customs, which are a precious testament to the Mediterranean ancestry and lifestyle that continues to thrive today.
The history of Hvar dates back to 384 BC when Greek settlers built the first island settlement on the Adriatic. The ancient city of Pharos, modernly known as Stari Grad, was the capital of the island that today boasts six UNESCO World Heritage protections – Stari Grad Plain, ‘Following the Cross’ Procession, Agave Lace from Benedictine Nuns, the famous Mediterranean Diet, Klapa Singing, and the art of Dry Stone Walling.
Not only does Hvar own the most UNESCO heritage of any island in the world, but it is home to Europe’s first public theatre and is the birthplace of organized tourism in Europe, with tourism based on health and recuperation. It has been a favorite wellness destination since the Austro-Hungarian era.
Non-intrusive Architecture and Natural Interiors.
Paradox Hospitality, the managing company behind Maslina Resort, developed the Mindful Luxury philosophy, evident not only in the service but throughout the design of its facilities. Their vision for Maslina Resort was to create architecture that fosters a sense of wellbeing and a connection to nature and community.
Maslina Resort fuses classic Mediterranean styles with contemporary French touches, respecting the nature already in place as the foundation of the design philosophy.
To cultivate the same feeling the designers had upon first visiting Maslinica Bay, native and local species are used to maintain the landscape language already in place, where wild Mediterranean vegetation thrives thanks to thick Aleppo pines, mature olive trees, and fragrant herb bushes. The landscape is linked with the colors of the materials, which are all natural and locally-sourced.
The low-intrusive architecture floats on the landscape like scattered pavilions, decorated with a ventilated wooden facade that blends in with the island environment. The integrated interior design is inspired by the four elements of nature, which helped construct a palette driven by the cerulean Adriatic Sea, salty summer breeze, pearly white rocks, and dense green forest.
Local Brac Island stone, exotic Iroko wood, brushed brass and tones of terracotta are harmonized with the natural color scheme, while custom-made interiors and carefully handpicked vintage pieces complete a space that is intimate, comfortable, and delicately designed with the guest in mind.
Wellness
Wellness is the crux of Maslina Resort, and is highlighted in every detail, including the organic and locally-produced amenities and facilities designed with the guest in mind. The Pharomatiq Spa showcases a modern fitness room, beauty salon, and relaxation areas as well as a dedicated Aqua Thermal area with a Finnish sauna, aromatherapy steam bath, Turkish Hammam, and cold plunge pool. The Spa specializes in restorative experiences with a garden-to-skin inspired menu that uses home-grown, organic herbs and locally sourced essential oils. Seasonal à-la-carte treatments and immersion programs combine western and eastern massage techniques, fitness, and mindfulness practices. Hvar itself is a health sanitarium and has been recognized as a destination for recovery and wellbeing since 1868.
Culinary Arts – Mindful Cooking
Supporting Maslina Resort’s Mindful Luxury philosophy, the culinary focus embraces the UNESCO-protected Mediterranean Diet but adds a contemporary edge. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes can be created for guests upon request. The cuisine at Maslina Resort respects local ingredients, honors producers, and recognizes seasonality. It balances authenticity and spontaneity, traditional and modern, local and global fare.
The contemporary Mediterranean-inspired restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner, with a poolside menu during the day. A la carte menu with tasting menu options are complemented by a selection of wines and spirits, as well as classic and craft cocktails and specialty coffee for dessert.
Along the coastal promenade of Maslina Resort is A•bay, a laid-back beachside hangout where you can eat, drink and swim from sunrise to sunset. Doubling as a boulangerie & cafe bar in the morning and trattoria & konoba fusion for lunch and dinner, guests can begin the day with buttery croissants and local specialty coffee and replenish with a selection of tapas, sandwiches & pizzas, salads, and freshly caught grilled fish for lunch. Chilled cocktails, crisp champagne, and canapés are served at sunset.
The Wine and Culture Club is open throughout the day, where Maslina’s expert concierge helps guests create bespoke experiences on the island. It is also a hub for those who want to learn about the long history of winemaking on Hvar and boasts an extensive wine list abounding in award-winning local and international labels.
Kid’s Activities
Maslina’s Playroom offers educational programs around local culture for children. This dedicated kid’s space features water elements, a climbing wall, and a selection of entertaining and fun activities every day with a qualified assistant on hand.
